About the Italian MotoGP

Race Day:

The Italian MotoGP, also known as the Gran Premio d’Italia, is set in the beautiful region of Tuscany in the peaceful town of Mugello, which sets the perfect contrasting backdrop for what is always a thrilling and vibrant race.

The Autodromo del Mugello circuit, which has hosted the Italian MotoGP since 1976, offers ample viewing areas, as well as modern facilities and services thanks to a renovation in 1991, making it one of the most popular MotoGP events. Plus, as Mugello is located around 30 km north-east of Florence, many race attendees choose to stay in Florence, allowing visitors to enjoy not just the thrill of the Italian MotoGP, but also the Renaissance beauty of one of Italy’s most popular cities.

As well as the MotoGP, the track at Autodromo del Mugello also hosts the Moto2 and the Moto3, and is just over 5 km in length, with 15 corners that blend fast turns with sweeping bends, ensuring plenty of action. However, with a long straight of 1141 m, competitors can clock up speeds of up to 220 mph and Autodromo del Mugello is considered one of the most challenging MotoGP tracks.

To date, Italy’s Valentino Rossi holds the record for most wins at the Mugello MotoGP, with a total of seven, and he also holds the record for the most poles, with six. However, the fastest lap time was set by Andrea Iannone for the Ducati Team in 2015, with a time of 1’46.489, and Iannone also holds the record for the top speed – 220 mph – which he set in 2016, earning him third place on the podium.
